Our story is not unique. The Covid pandemic changed the world. We were presented with an amazing opportunity.
And so we leapt!
I grew up in southeastern Michigan. An artist from the start, I put myself through college with a combination of scholarships, grants and loans. As a young person, I dreamt of California beaches and sunshine, of being surrounded by artists and creative people, of having adventures. I achieved nearly everything I set out to accomplish. I moved to San Francisco, I advanced in my career, I met my match and together we bought a little bungalow with a big yard and got married under palm trees in the California sunshine.

As we got older, our lives became quieter and city living became less attractive. The noise, the lack of privacy, the expense… started to wear on us. We dreamt of moving someplace quieter and began visiting places we imagined would make a good home. When we visited Seattle and Bainbridge Island, we fell in love with the rich greenness of Puget Sound.

But our dreams would have to wait until we somehow managed to save enough money, or somehow managed to find the right jobs, or somehow something would change… Then the pandemic happened and everything changed.
Suddenly, we didn’t have to wait. We could leave the city and move to… well.. anywhere!
And we chose Kitsap.
I had a long-distance love affair with our Kitsap farmhouse. I found the listing on a real estate website, but we weren’t quite ready to make the leap. When it went off the market I was surprisingly heartbroken. When it unexpectedly came back on the market I was so excited! We talked it over and decided that since we felt so strongly about the place, we should go see it and if it felt right, we’d make an offer. And it did, and so we did!
It’s so very “us” that we were at Disneyland when the offer was accepted. It was our first trip since the start of the pandemic and we were celebrating the next phase of our lives at a place that is magical and special to us.

Our journey from having our offer accepted to finally getting the keys was not a smooth one, but despite a bumpy road, we got our keys on October 4th, which also happens to be our wedding anniversary. Kismet?

It is not without guilt that I recognize how we’ve benefited from tragedy. We’ve both worked immensely hard to get where we are, but recognize that we are extremely privileged. We are able to pursue our dreams in a fantastically beautiful place, in an historic home, as stewards of land, forests, and waterways.
Our new life is certainly quieter but no less full of adventure! We are slowly getting familiar with Kitsap, and all that it has to offer, including the amazing sunsets! We’re learning so much about homesteading and land management and we are excited to share all of our adventures with you. We hope you’ll follow along.
